Local author and illustrator Monstermatt Patterson, seen with some of his creations, will be at Cats Like Us.

Toni Ruberto

You can tell by his name that Matt “Monstermatt” Patterson can find the humor in horror.

The award-winning local author and illustrator has been writing books filled with monster jokes, horror humor and corny puns for nearly a decade starting with “Monstermatt’s Bad Monster Jokes Vol. 1.”

The classic horror aficionado is celebrating the release of his newest book “Ha-Ha! Horror Collectors Edition” with a meet-and-greet appearance from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 17 at Cats Like Us (67 Main St., Tonawanda). The 242-page book features dozens of his drawings plus more than 2,700 “bad” jokes.

He’ll also have his other books available, plus his monster masks, artwork and sketchcards. There are sure to be many conversations about horror films as well.

There will be refreshments including vegan cut-outs from Wheatberry Bakery. All state guidelines for social distancing and masks, etc. will be in effect.
